What Are Web Slings Used For?

Web slings are commonly used for lifting delicate surfaces since they do not mar like chain slings or other lifting devices.

Synthetic web slings offer excellent load protection. Because they are made of synthetic material, they have stretch and flexibility which helps to mold around the shape of the load being lifted. Care should be taken to insure that no foreign materials, which may induce scratches or other damage, are present in the sling body. Also, remember that synthetic slings stretch under load (3-6% for nylon, 3-4% for polyester). It is this stretch which may create damage on some surfaces.

Long term exposure to ultraviolet light will have a deteriorating effect on web slings. Efforts to minimize ultraviolet exposure will enhance sling longevity and safety.

Web slings provide superior gripping ability by molding and conforming to the load's surface.

Web slings are unaffected by most chemicals. Please note chemical effects chart below. They should not be used in conditions where the temperature will exceed 180°F.

Following are some examples of web slings that have deteriorated. If you see any visible signs on your web slings they should be removed from service immediately.
